Magnitude 4.3 earthquake jolts central Turkey

A 4.3 magnitude quake struck the Ereğli district of Turkey’s central Konya province on Friday, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency announced on its website.

The earthquake occurred at around 17:01 TSI, with its epicenter at a latitude of 37.954 degrees north and a longitude of 33.989 degrees east, and at a depth of 7.05 km.

On February 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria.

The death toll in Turkey and Syria has passed 50,000, and many survivors are enduring near-freezing winter temperatures after having been left homeless by the earthquake in cities in both countries.  

More than 8,000 aftershocks have occurred after the devastating earthquakes, according to AFAD. (ILKHA)
