Türkiye declares state of emergency following devastating earthquake

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan coordinated and was briefed on the works underway in the area of earthquake at the State Information Coordination Center of the Presidential Complex.

Making statements on the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes at the State Information Coordination Center, Erdoğan said: “We declare the 10 provinces hit by earthquakes to be an area of disaster affecting the public life. By the power vested in us by Article 119 of the Constitution, we have decided to declare state of emergency in order for search and rescue operations and the following efforts to be carried out rapidly. We will quickly complete the Presidency and National Assembly processes regarding this decision, which is to cover the 10 provinces and remain in effect for a period of three months.”

Making statements at the State Information Coordination Center, doğan invited citizens and businesspeople who wish to help heal the wounds of the quake to make donations via the bank accounts of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and added that transfers to the Turkish Lira and foreign currency accounts of the AFAD at the prominent banks and participation banks in Türkiye will be free of charge.

Erdoğan said: “The gravity of the earthquake disaster we have experienced makes it imperative for us to implement extraordinary measures. We declare the 10 provinces hit by earthquake an area of disaster that affects the public life. By the power vested in us by Article 119 of the Constitution, we have decided to declare state of emergency in order for search and rescue operations and the following efforts to be carried out rapidly.
