“We condemn the acts of violence against the Government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Congress and the Constitutional Court in Brazil,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry emphasized that “it is important to respect the results of elections and the democratic processes that reflect the will of the people in the country”.
“We express our solidarity with the Government of President Lula da Silva and the Brazilian people in the face of these acts of violence,” the Ministry added.
On Sunday, the supporters of the previous president, Jair Bolsonaro, attacked the Supreme Court of Brazil, the National Congress of Brazil, and the Planalto Presidential Palace in the Praça dos Três Poderes plaza in Brasília, the federal capital.
The attack occurred a week after Lula's inauguration and followed several weeks of unrest from Bolsonaro's supporters. The Supreme Court, Congress, and Presidential Palace were reported as cleared later that evening.
Lula announced that he had signed a decree authorizing a federal state of emergency in the Federal District through the end of January. (ILKHA)
