“Step by step towards our energy independence... The gas collection and distribution chamber ÇEPNI has been successfully placed on the seabed in the second production center of the Sakarya Gas Field,” Turkish Petroleum Corporation wrote on Twitter.

The production from Sakarya, which is a natural gas field of sweet gas in the Black Sea planned to be connected to the Filyos Natural-gas Processing Plant, is due to start in 2023.

In 2020, the drilling ship Fatih, belonging to TPAO, discovered the Sakarya Gas Field under the Black Sea near where Romania has also found gas reserves.

Turkish Black Sea reserves are estimated at over 700 bcm: a pipeline is under construction and TPAO hopes to begin production in 2023, with peak production of 40 bcm in 2026. (ILKHA)
