10 dead, including five children, in France apartment fire

Ten people, including five children, were killed when a fire broke out on Friday morning at a residential building in Vaulx-en-Velin, near the French city of Lyon.

“An alert for a major fire in a 7-storey residential building, 12 Chemin des Barques in Vaulx-en-Velin, was given at 03:12 this Friday, December 16,” the regional authority of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes said in a statement.

The statement said that 10 people, including five children, were killed in the fire, adding that four people are in critical condition, and another ten, including two firefighters, suffered minor injuries from the fire

“The prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, prefect of the Rhône, Pascal MAILHOS, the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène GEOFFROY and the Public prosecutor, Nicolas JACQUET, are on site,” the statement noted. (ILKHA)
