During the Peruvian political crisis when Pedro Castillo attempted to dissolve the Congress of the Republic of Peru during impeachment proceedings against him, Dina Boluarte, who had been vice-president, condemned the move as a breakdown of the constitutional order.

“I reject Pedro Castillo's decision to perpetrate the breakdown of the constitutional order with the closure of the Congress. This is a coup d'état that aggravates the political and institutional crisis that Peruvian society will have to overcome with strict adherence to the law,” Boluarte wrote on Twitter.

In her first speech after being sworn in as the president, Boluarte called for “a political truce to install a government of national unity”.

Boluarte also pledged to form an inclusive cabinet in Peru where the presidency has been locked in battle with Congress for more than a year. (ILKHA)
