Underlining that the Kurdish issue has become the most deep-rooted, burning, urgent problem of the country that needs to be solved, Yapıcıoğlu called on the government: “Do not be content with making rhetorical statements about brotherhood anymore. Take some concrete steps in accordance with what brotherhood requires. Let everyone be equal citizens.”

“The Kurdish identity should be officially recognized in the constitution. If the requirements of the brotherhood are fulfilled, a real brotherhood will be established between Kurds and Turks. Then they will be able to walk together,” Yapıcıoğlu added.

Yapıcıoğlu continued his remarks as follows: “The government launched a peace process a few years ago. Unfortunately, it failed. Now, it is denying the existence of the Kurdish issue in Turkey. But we think there is a Kurdish issue and it has not been solved yet. We say that it must be solved definitely. The solution is very simple: Don't do unto others what you don't want done unto you. Love for your brother what you love for yourself. Thereby, we will be equal.  If the government sees the issue only as a problem of security and violence, it is misguided on the issue. Violence is the result of the issue, not the cause. There is an issue, and since this issue has not been resolved, even if you somehow convince those who have a gun to lay down their arms or take the gun from them by force, if you do not solve the issue, someone else will take the gun tomorrow. So, the issue would remain unsolved.”

Yapıcıoğlu also called on the authorities to not be content with making rhetorical statements about brotherhood anymore.

“Take some concrete steps in accordance with what brotherhood requires. Let everyone be equal citizens,” he added. (ILKHA)
