Türkiye’s Erdoğan to attend Qatar World Cup opening ceremony

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will head to Qatar on Sunday to attend the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.

“President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Doha on November 20, 2022, at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar to attend the FIFA World Cup 2022 Opening Ceremony,” the Turkish presidency said in a statement.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022.

This is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, and the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

The opening ceremony will take place on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, prior to the opening match of the tournament between hosts Qatar and Ecuador. (ILKHA)
