Afghanistan’s Islamic Emirate committed to freedom of speech—Culture Minister

The Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, said that new Afghan government is committed to freedom of speech.

In a meeting with media representatives, Khairkhwa noted that the efforts are being made to solve the economic problems of media outlets.

He added media should not violate national interests.

For their part, the media representatives called on the Islamic Emirate to respect the principles that sustain a free media.

There are 405 audio-visual media outlets in Afghanistan. Since 2003, 405 media outlets have been registered and received their licenses.

Based on the survey of the Ministry of Information and Culture, the number of media outlets currently active is 198 across Afghanistan. (ILKHA)
