Hundreds of residential buildings and several hectares of farmlands were destroyed in the floods, causing huge financial losses to people, according to local sources.

Rescue teams have been sent to the flooded areas to help flood-affected people, officials said.

On 5 May, a flood affected several parts of Afghanistan. Approximately 400 people were killed by flooding.

The rain and flooding were particularly severe in the provinces of Badghis, Faryab and Baghlan.

Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority said that 500 homes had been destroyed and 2,000 more damaged, 300 head of livestock killed and some 3,000 acres of crops damaged.

Afghanistan has suffered from drought and climate change, with low crop yields raising fears of serious food shortages. (ILKHA)
