Pakistan: At least 165 killed, 171 injured in rain-related accidents

At least 165 people were killed and 171 others injured in separate rain-related accidents during the pre-monsoon season in Pakistan since June 14, the country’s disaster agency said.

Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province has been the worst-hit region where 65 people died and 49 others sustained injuries due to torrential rains that triggered flash floods and landslides.

Several incidents of dam bursts, which swept away scores of houses and infrastructures, were reported in the province, according to local media reports.

It has affected many city areas, including Quetta, Sariab and Eastern Bypass. In many areas, rainwater infiltrated homes and made them uninhabitable. More than 300 families have been displaced.

According to the Relief Commissioner Provincial Disaster Management, Quetta has been declared a disaster area due to rains, and an emergency has been declared. (ILKHA)
