Türkiye: Number of libraries rises by 1.7% in 2021

There are 1 National Library, 1 252 public libraries, 612 university libraries and 32 thousand 690 formal and non-formal education institutions' libraries throughout Türkiye in 2021.

The highest increase in the number of books was in university libraries with 8.7%

When the number of books is analyzed compared to the previous year, 1 million 545 thousand 352 in the National Library with an increase of 4.7%, 20 million 174 thousand 856 with an increase of 8.7% in the university libraries, 22 million 359 thousand 38 in the public libraries with an increase of 5.8%, formal and non-formal education institutions' libraries decreased by 0.4% to 34 million 325 thousand 612.

The number of registered members in the National Library increased by 8.1%

The number of registered members in the National Library increased by 8.1% compared to the previous year and reached 136 thousand 120. The number of non-book materials in the National Library increased by 3.5% compared to the previous year and became 195 thousand 568, while the number of people benefiting from the National Library decreased by 11.1% compared to the previous year and became 179 thousand 726.

The number of university libraries was 612

It has been observed that there are 612 university libraries in total in Türkiye, of which 464 are state universities and 148 are foundation universities. The number of e-books in university libraries decreased by 3.9% compared to the previous year and became 93 million 559 thousand 479. While the number of registered members of the university increased by 2.3% to 3 million 641 thousand 661, the number of non-book materials increased by 3.9% and reached 1 million 347 thousand 218.

The number of people benefiting from public libraries increased by 21.0%

The number of people using public libraries increased by 21.0% compared to the previous year and reached 15 million 683 thousand 134. The number of registered members in public libraries increased by 10.4% compared to the previous year and reached 4 million 898 thousand 744, while the number of materials were lent by libraries increased by 23.9% to 7 million 478 thousand 340.

The number of enriched libraries in formal and non-formal education institutions increased by 13.2%

While the number of enriched libraries in formal and non-formal education institutions increased by 13.2% compared to the previous year to 3 thousand 88, the number of non-book materials decreased by 5.9% to 944 thousand 422. (ILKHA)
