“In February, it had been +5.1%. Thus, inflation in March reached its highest level since German reunification,” Destatis said.

Similarly, high inflation rates in the former territory of the Federal Republic were last recorded in the autumn of 1981 when mineral oil prices had markedly increased as a result of the first Gulf war between Iraq and Iran.

Destatis also reported that consumer prices jumped by 2.5% from February. (ILKHA)
