Turkey: 4 irregular migrants killed, 25 others injured in traffic accident

At least four people were killed and 25 others injured after a van carrying irregular migrants rolled over in eastern Turkey on Monday morning.

According to the initial reports, the accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving on the highway in the Adilcevaz district of Turkey’s Bitlis province.

Ambulances, police, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene after the accident had been reported to the officials.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Ahlat, Adilcevaz, and Tatvan, local sources reported.

The officers were investigating how the crash happened.

Traffic accidents claim thousands of lives every year in Turkey. According to figures by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 4,866 people were killed in traffic accidents and another 226,266 people suffered injuries in the country last year.

One-third of the accidents stem from drivers exceeding speed limits. (ILKHA)
