"The israel question has been suspended for now and instead there will be a committee set up to study the issue," one of the diplomats stated on the closing day of the AU's annual summit in Addis Ababa.

According to the Algerian media, a committee was formed of representatives of Algeria, South Africa, Senegal, Cameroon, DR Congo, Rwanda and Nigeria to make recommendations on the issue to the upcoming AU summit.

The decision crowned efforts by Algeria and other countries to cancel the accreditation that Moussa Faki, chairperson of the Union, granted Israel last July, without consulting the member states.

The unilateral decision by Faki to accredit israel to the AU has been condemned by the majority of the member states and seen as a grave violation of the Constitutive Act of the union and the criteria for accreditation system for non-African states. (ILKHA)
