French soldier killed in northern Mali

“It is with very deep emotion that the President of the Republic learned of the death in Mali of Brigadier Alexandre MARTIN of the 54th Hyères artillery regiment, killed in Gao during a mortar attack on the Barkhane military camp, in the afternoon of Saturday January 22,” French President Emmanuel Macron's office said in a statement on Sunday.

Nine others were also injured after the mortar shells hit at the French military base, a statement from the defense ministry said. (ILKHA)
