Turkey’s Coronavirus Scientific Advisory Board to discuss Omicron variant

Coronavirus Scientific Advisory Board will convene on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

The measures against the Omicron variant of COVID-19 will be at top of the agenda for the meeting.

The country’s ongoing vaccination campaign will also be evaluated at the meeting.

The meeting will be held through video conference at 17:30 o'clock.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca will issue a written statement after the meeting.

The Coronavirus Scientific Advisory Board of Turkey is a group of medical scientists set up by the Ministry of Health to develop measures in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in Turkey that are imposed by the government.

The Scientific Advisory Board was set up on 10 January 2020 following the emergence of the coronavirus outbreak, before the World Health Organization confirmed it mid-March as a pandemic.

The board consists of 26 members, including 21 university professors and 4 medical experts specializing in Pulmonology, Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology, and a legal advisor.

The number of board members increased later to 31 with the joining of expert academics in virology, internal medicine, intensive care medicine. (ILKHA)
