Turkey: Confidence index decreases in services, retail trade and construction sectors

Seasonally adjusted confidence index decreased by 0.5% in services, 0.4% in retail trade and 3.9% in construction sectors in December compared to November, the Turkish Statistical Institute said.

Services confidence index realized as 118.8

Seasonally adjusted confidence index which was 119.4 for services in November decreased by 0.5% in December to 118.8. In services sector compared to the previous month, business situation over past three months sub-index decreased by 1.6% to 121.2. Demand-turnover over past three months sub-index decreased by 0.2% to 117.1 and demand-turnover expectation over next three months sub-index increased by 0.3% to 118.1.

Retail trade confidence index realized as 121.5

Seasonally adjusted retail trade confidence index decreased by 0.4% in December to 121.5. In retail trade sector compared to the previous month, business activity-sales over past three months sub-index increased by 2.4% to 133.6. Current volume of stock sub-index decreased by 2.9% to 96.9 and business activity-sales expectation over next three months sub-index decreased by 1.3% to 133.8.

Construction confidence index realized as 90.0

Seasonally adjusted construction confidence index which was 93.6 in November decreased by 3.9% in December to 90.0. In construction sector compared to the previous month, current overall order books sub-index became 79.2 by decreasing 3.2%. Total employment expectation over next three months sub-index decreased by 4.4% to 100.9.

In construction sector, 48.0% of the enterprises indicated at least one factor limiting their activities while 52.0% of the enterprises indicated none in December. Among the main factors limiting activities in construction sector; "financial constraints" which was 28.6% in November realized as 33.8% in December, "insufficient demand" which was 19.6% in November realized as 17.3% in December and "other factors" which was 13.3% in November realized as 18.9% in December.
