Monthly average labor cost in Turkey was 5 194 liras in 2020

Turkey’s statistical agency (TurkStat) has issued the country’s labor cost statistics for the reference year 2020.

According to results of the statistics, which was conducted four yearly to give information on total labor cost of employment to the employer and shares of these cost items within total labor cost, monthly average labor cost was 5 194 TRY for the reference year 2020.

The highest labor cost was in the economic activity of financial and insurance activities

The highest labor cost was observed in financial and insurance activities sector with the 13 587 TRY. This sector was followed by information and communication sector with 9 732 TRY and arts, entertainment and recreation sector with 8 628 TRY.

The lowest labor cost was in accommodation and food service activities sector with 2 703 TRY. This sector was followed by construction sector with 3 129 TRY and other service activities sector with 3 751 TRY.

Gross earnings had the greatest share in labor cost with 86.9%

The share of gross earnings within labor cost was 86.9%, the share of social security payments was 13% and the share of other labor cost payments was 0.1%.  

The share of the regular payments for days worked within components of earnings was 80.6%

Regular payments for days worked constituted the 80.6% of earnings. The share of payments for days not worked was 9.3%. Where the share of irregular payments for days worked was 9.1%, in kind payments was 0.5% and savings scheme payments was 0.5%.

The share of statutory payments within social security payments was 88.6%

The share of the statutory payments in social security payments was 88.6%, the share of voluntary social security payments was 0.7% and the share of severance and termination payments was 10.7%. (ILKHA)
