At least 24 people injured in Turkey bus crash

At least 24 people were injured when a passenger bus skidded off the road in the Refahiye district of Turkey’s eastern Erzincan province.

The accident happened at 06:00 TSI near the Akarsu village on the Erzincan-Sivas Highway, officials said.

Ambulances, police, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene after the accident had been reported to the officials.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Erzincan, local sources reported.

The officers were investigating how the crash happened.

Traffic accidents claim thousands of lives every year in Turkey. According to figures by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 4,866 people were killed in traffic accidents and another 226,266 people suffered injuries in the country last year.

One-third of the accidents stem from drivers exceeding speed limits. (ILKHA)
