Andersson resigned without taking office as her coalition collapsed after it failed to pass a budget and the Green Party refused to govern with the oppositional budget.

Andersson's resignation was based on the praxis that a Prime Minister should resign if a party leaves the governing coalition. She notified Speaker Andreas Norlén that she is interested in leading a social democratic one-party government.

“This morning I was elected prime minister with the intention of forming a coalition government with representatives of the Social Democrats and the Green Party. The Green Party has now announced that they no longer want to be part of the government,” Andersson said.

“I have now met with the president and asked to be dismissed from the post of Prime Minister. I have also announced that I am still ready to become prime minister, but for a social democratic one-party government,” she added. (ILKHA)
