The Hamas Movement announced on Monday that it had taken a number of political and legal measures at home and abroad to appeal against the UK decision to declare the group a “terrorist” group.

This came in a conference held in Gaza for the Palestinian factions under the title: "Resistance is a legitimate right... occupation is terrorism".

During the conference, a member of the group's politburo Zakaria Abu Muammar said that the Movement has made since Friday a series of contacts with several official and civil bodies regarding this dangerous decision against the Palestinian people.

“We called on our allies to play their role in putting pressure on the British government to immediately retreat its decision,” he said.

He further called on Britain to "immediately apologize for its historical crime against the Palestinian people," in reference to the Balfour Declaration.

Britain must immediately reverse this decision and instead take practical steps to atone for its historical sin in the Balfour Declaration, he said.

Last week, British home secretary Priti Patel announced she was seeking to declare the entire Resistance Movement of Hamas a “terrorist entity”. She is expected to present her decision to the parliament next week.

Hamas’s armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, was already proscribed a “terrorist organization” by Britain, but the current pro-Israel step would also cover the Movement's political bureau. (ILKHA)
