Adnan Akgönül, the head of The Prophet’s Lovers Foundation, held a press conference to announce the schedule of “November Month Companions Month” annual events that aim to commemorate the companions of Prophet Muhammed and make widely known their lives.
Akgönül started his speech by reciting Salawat and quoting a verse from the Holy Quran that says “But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided – it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.”
“There are hundreds of verses regarding the Companions (May Allah be pleased with them) in the Holy Quran. Our Lord has praised them and mentioned them in the Holy Quran because of their support for Prophet Muhammed. The life and exemplary personalities of each of the Companions are deep enough to serve as an example for believers,” Akgönül said.
“We try to benefit from the lives of the Companions who enlighten our path”
Akgönül said that they, as the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation, organized many events to commemorate the Companions within the scope of “November Month Companions Month” events during the previous years. “We declared November month as the month of the Companions in 2015. Since then, we have been holding various events during this month to make known these ‘Stars’ and ‘Candles’ that enlighten our path.”
Akgönül went on to say: “Until now, we have organized events to commemorate the Companions under the title of ‘Abu Bakr and Loyalty', ‘Omar the Farooq’ (the one who distinguishes between right and wrong), ‘Uthman the Example of Modesty and Decency’ and ‘Ali the Gate of Knowledge’. We have included Ashara Mubashara, the ten Companions who were promised paradise, as well as female sahabah (women companions) in our programs since 2019.”
“The road to our salvation is through following these Stars”
Speaking about the Companions whose lives will be discussed in the programs this year, Akgönül said: “We will discuss the life of Talha ibn Ubaidullah, who was one of Ashara Mubashara, the ten Companions who were promised paradise, as well as the life of Aisha Bint Abu Bakr, the wife of Our Prophet Muhammed. As you know, her innocence was confirmed with revelation from Allah.”
Akgönül also noted that the lives of Abu Basir, Abu Hureyra, Zayd ibn Harithah, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, Juwayriya bint al-Harith, Umm Ruman, Afra binti Ubaid, and Barirah would be studied in detail at the events.
Akgönül wished the events that aim to make known the lives of the companions would be auspices for all Muslims, adding: “As Prophet’s Lovers Foundation, we believe that the road to our salvation is through following these Stars who were brought up during the Age of Bliss. As prominent persons raised by our Prophet, the companions became a generation that brought us the legacy of prophethood and became a bridge between the Prophet’s sunnah and Muslims.” (ILKHA)
