“Algeria expressed its categorical rejection of the unacceptable interference in its internal affairs, following the unrefuted statements that several French sources attributed, by name, to the president of the French Republic,” the presidency said in a statement.

The presidency stated that “the crimes of colonial France in Algeria are innumerable and respond to the definitions of genocide against humanity. These crimes that do not have a statute of limitations should not be the subject of manipulation of facts and interpretations that mitigate their ugliness.”

“In the face of the unacceptable situation left by these irresponsible statements, the President of the Republic decided to immediately summon Algeria’s ambassador to the French Republic for consultations,” the presidency added.

French media reported that President Macron made recent comments regarding Algeria's post-colonial system of government and its attitudes to France. (ILKHA)
