Death toll from floods in Turkey’s Black Sea region rises to 81

At least eighty-one people were killed and many others went missing after flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains hit Turkey's Black Sea region last week.

Seventy people were killed in floods in Kastamonu, ten people died in Sinop and another person died in Bartın, the Interior Ministry's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said.

The efforts to find and rescue missing people are reportedly still ongoing in the region.

About 950 workers in Bartin, 2,807 in Kastamonu, and 1,693 in Sinop are carrying out relief work in the affected areas, AFAD said.

Over 1,700 people were evacuated from the region, some with the help of helicopters and boats.

More than 5,000 spaces had been allocated in student dormitories to shelter those displaced by the floods.
