Iraq: Gunmen assassinate mayor of Karbala

Al-Khafaji, the mayor of Karbala, a city southwest of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, has been killed on Tuesday after he was shot with three bullets to the chest, Iraq News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi offered condolences to the family of the martyr, stressing that the killer will receive his punishment after he was arrested.

“We will be more severe with trespassers and violators. This incident will not go unnoticed,” Khadimi said. (ILKHA)
