Iran: Huge fire breaks out at chemical plant in Qom

A huge fire broke out at an alcohol-making plant in an industrial complex in Qom, northern Iran on Sunday morning.

“The fire was reported at 6 am local time, and more than 100 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish the fire in ‘Movalledan’ factory at a chemical industries plant,” said Hamid Karimi, the spokesman for the Fire Department of Qom.

“The operation has been very strenuous, but the firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to alcohol storage tanks and other flammable materials,” he added.

He also noted that a fire truck had been destroyed in the operation and two firemen had been wounded and transferred to a nearby hospital.

In order to control the raging fire, an emergency has been declared in the area and all organizations, including the IRGC, have been mobilized. (ILKHA)
