Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Turkey realizes as 13.4% in February

The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 250 thousand to 4 million 236 thousand persons in February 2021 in Turkey compared to the previous month, the country’s statistical institute said.

The number of employed persons decreased by 22 thousand to 27 million 477 thousand persons in the period of February 2021 compared to the previous month. The employment rate occurred as 43.4% with 0.1 percentage point decrease.

Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 50.1%

The number of persons in the labor force realized 31 million 712 thousand persons with 226 thousand persons increase in February 2021 compared to the previous month. The labor force participation rate was 50.1% with 0.3 percentage point increase.

The youth unemployment rate was 26.9%, the employment rate was 28.1%

The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 26.9% with 0.4 percentage point increase compared to the previous month and the employment rate was 28.1% with 0.3 percentage point decrease. The labor force participation rate in this age group realized as 38.5% with 0.1 percentage points decrease compared to the previous month.

55.8% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector

In February 2021, the number of agricultural employment decreased by 52 thousand persons, industry decreased by 166 thousand persons while construction increased by 37 thousand persons and services increased by 157 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.4% was employed in agriculture, 20.8% was employed in industry, 6.0% was employed in construction and 55.8% was employed in services.

Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 28.3%

In February 2021, the rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 28.3% with 1.2 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 19.8%, combined rate of unemployment and the potential labor force realized as 22.5%.

Non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 14.1%, employment rate realized as 42.9%

Non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 14.1% with 0.6 percentage point increase compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of unemployed persons increased by 206 thousand to 4 million 445 thousand persons compared to the same month of the previous year.

Non-seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 42.9% with 0.7 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of employed persons estimated as 27 million 150 thousand persons with 69 thousand persons increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

Non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 49.9% with 0.5 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of labor force estimated as 31 million 595 thousand persons with 275 thousand persons increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector was 16.7%

In February 2021, the rate of unregistered employment, which indicates the share of employment who are not affiliated with social security institution in total employment realized as 27.4% with 2.8 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector realized as 16.7% with 3.6 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. (ILKHA)
