Turkey: Overall export unit value index increases by 3.8% in January

As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall export unit value index increased by 3.8% in January, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Friday.

In the same month, compared to January 2020, while the index for fuels decreased by 16.4%, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), and manufactured goods (except food, beverages, and tobacco) increased by 3.9%, 9.8%, and 4.4%, respectively.

 The overall export volume index decreased by 1.4%

The overall export volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year decreased by 1.4% in January. Compared with January 2020, while the index for crude materials (except fuels) increased by 2.0%, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, fuels, and manufactured goods (except food, beverages, and tobacco) decreased by 5.2%, 12.6%, and 3.3%, respectively.

The overall import unit value index increased by 3.9%

As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall import unit value index increased by 3.9% in January. While the index for fuels decreased by 22.6%, the index for food, beverages, and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), and manufactured goods (except food, beverages, and tobacco) increased by 10.4%, 21.5%, and 7.7%, respectively.

The overall import volume index decreased by 9.4%

In January, the overall import volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year decreased by 9.4%. While the index for crude materials (except fuels) increased by 5.1%, the index for food, beverages, and tobacco, fuels, and manufactured goods (except food, beverages, and tobacco) decreased by 25.2%, 17.1%, and 1.8%, respectively.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index increased by 1.8%

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index which was 136.7 in December 2020, increased by 1.8%, to 139.2 in January 2021. The calendar-adjusted export volume index which was 115.5 in January 2020, increased by 6.7%, to 123.2 in January 2021.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index decreased by 1.6%

The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index which was 113.7 in December 2020, decreased by 1.6%, to 111.8 in January 2021. The calendar-adjusted import volume index which was 105.0 in January 2020, decreased by 3.1%, to 101.7 in January 2021.

Terms of trade were 97.5 in January 2021

Terms of trade are calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index, then multiplying the result by 100. While terms of trade were 97.5 in January 2020, they remained the same in January 2021. (ILKHA)
