Coronavirus: Iran reports 6,312 new cases, 177 deaths in the last 24 hours

Iran has reported 177 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 53,625, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Sunday.

After 6,312 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 1,158,384 in the country.

There are at least 5,563 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 885,054 patients have been discharged from hospital after being cured.

So far, more than 7.04 million tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 1,693,749 with 76,712,022 cases and more than 53,833,419 recoveries. (ILKHA)
