Death toll rises to 9 in Kurdistan protests

The number of people killed has risen to 9 since the protests against the government in southern Kurdistan began.

The protests over delayed payment of public sector salaries have resulted in mass protesting resulting in many injuries and even deaths.

At least 8 protesters shot dead in last 48 hours and one KDP member killed in Kurdistan’s Sulaimania province as protests gotten increasingly violent over worsening economic conditions.

All victims, including two minors, have died from the use of firearms, the local officials said.

The protests, which erupted on December 2, have turned violent, many gov’t buildings and political party offices have been attacked and burnt by protesters.

After the murder of a teenager in Seyid Sadiq, a Police Station was torched alongside the Mayor's residence.

The protesters burnt down all the buildings that belong to the government and the political parties in the city.

The protests haven’t reached Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan region. (ILKHA)
