Unemployment rate decreases in Turkey, TurkStat says

The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 456 thousand to 4 million 194 thousand persons in the period of August 2020 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year, according to the statement.

Non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 15.7% with 1.0 percentage point decrease.

Employment rate realized as 43.9%

The number of employed persons decreased by 975 thousand to 27 million 554 thousand persons in the period of August 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as 43.9% with 2.4 percentage point decrease.

In this period, the number of agricultural employments decreased by 314 thousand persons, industry decreased by 91 thousand persons and services decreased by 717 thousand persons while construction increased by 147 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 19.2% was employed in agriculture, 19.8% was employed in industry, 6.2% was employed in construction and 54.7% was employed in services.

Labor force participation rate realized as 50.6%

The number of persons in the labor force realized 31 million 749 thousand persons with 1 million 431 thousand persons decrease in the period of August 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labor force participation rate was 50.6% with 3.3 percentage point decrease.

The rate of unregistered employment realized as 32.9%

The ratio of persons working without any social security relating to the main job occurred 32.9% with 3.2 percentage point decrease in the period of August 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The rate of unregistered employment realized as 20.6% with 2.8 percentage point decrease in the non-agricultural sector compared to the same period of the previous year.

Public sector employment increased as 3.6%

According to data gathered by Presidency of Strategy and Budget, total public sector employment realized as 4 million 779 thousand persons with 3.6% percentage point increase in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year.

For 15-64 age group, unemployment rate realized as 13.5% and employment rate realized as 48.8%

For the 15-64 age group, the unemployment rate occurred as 13.5% with 0.8 percentage point decrease and non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 15.7% with 1.1 percentage point decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. In this age group, employment rate occurred as 48.8% with 2.2 percentage point decrease and labor force participation rate occurred as 56.4% with 3.1 percentage point decrease.

Youth unemployment rate realized as 26.1%, employment rate realized as 31.1%

The youth unemployment rate between aged 15-24 years realized as 26.1% with 1.3 percentage point decrease and the youth employment rate realized as 31.1% with 3.3 percentage point decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. In the same period, labor force participation rate realized as 42.1% with 5.4 percentage point decrease. The rate of neither in employment nor in education realized as 30.4% with 0.3 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.

Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.2%, employment rate realized as 43.0%

Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.2% with 0.3 percentage point decrease. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 78 thousand to 4 million 101 thousand persons.

Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 43.0% with 0.4 percentage point increase. The number of employed persons estimated as 26 million 952 thousand persons with 280 thousand persons increase compared with the same period of the previous year.

Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 49.5% with 0.2 percentage point increase. The number of labor force estimated as 31 million 53 thousand persons with 202 thousand persons increase.

According to the seasonally adjusted number of employments by sectors, employment in agriculture increased by 22 thousand persons, industry increased by 106 thousand persons, construction increased by 9 thousand persons and services increased by 144 thousand persons. (ILKHA)
