TURKSTAT: Crop production will increase when compared with the previous year in Turkey

It was estimated that crop production will increase when compared with the previous year, Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, in the second estimation of 2020, production quantities of cereals and other crops, vegetables and fruits, beverage and spices crops will increase by 7.3%, 1.6% and 7.3% respectively when compared with the previous year.

Production quantities of cereals and other crops, vegetables and fruits in 2020 were predicted approximately as follows; 68.5 million tons for cereals and other crops, 31.6 million tons for vegetables, and 23.9 million tons for fruits, beverage and spices crops.

It was estimated that cereals production will increase in 2020 when compared with the previous year

It was estimated that in 2020 cereals production will increase with a rate of 8.2% when compared with the previous year and approximately become 37.2 million tons.

It was estimated that wheat production will increase by 7.9% to become 20.5 million tons, barley production will increase by 9.2% and become 8.3 million tons, rye production will increase by 3.2% and become 320 thousand tons, oats production will increase by 17% and approximately become 310.2 thousand tons, when compared with the previous year.

In the pulses group, it was expected that a decrease will occur in broad beans to consume by 6.1% and production approximately become 5.1 thousand tons, red lentil will increase by 6.8% and approximately become 331.2 thousand tons and potatoes, one of tuber crops, will increase by 4.4% and become 5.2 million tons.

In the group of oil seeds, it was expected that sunflower production will decrease by 1.5% and approximately become 2.1 million tons.

It was estimated that tobacco production will increase by 11.4% and become 76 thousand tons, sugar beets production will increase by 10.8% and become 20 million tons.

It was estimated that vegetables production will increase in 2020 compared with the previous year

It was estimated that in 2020, vegetables production will increase with a rate of 1.6% when compared with the previous year and approximately become 31.6 million tons.

When examining production of subgroups of vegetables, root and tuberous vegetables production is expected to increase by 1%, production of vegetables cultivated for their fruits is expected to increase by 1.7%, while in other vegetables not elsewhere classified are expected to increase with the rate of 1.5%.

The production of some important crops in vegetables; increments are expected in tomatoes production by 2.4%, in dry onion by 3.6%, in cucumber by 24.3% while decrements are expected as 9% in watermelon, 3.3% in melon, 8.7% in green pepper.

It was estimated that fruits production will increase in 2020 when compared with the previous year

It was estimated that fruits, beverage and spices crops production will be 23.9 million tons in 2020 increasing by 7.3% when compared with the previous year.

When examining productions of some important fruits, it was estimated that there will be increments in apple production by 19.5%, in peaches production by 12.3%, in cherries production by 10.3%, in strawberries production by 25.4%, in pomegranates production by 3.9% when compared with the previous year. In the citrus group, an increase is expected in mandarin production by 11.5%. From nuts, pistachios production is expected to increase by 248.7%.

It was estimated that there will be increments in figs by 3.2% and in bananas by 24.2%. (ILKHA)
