Iran reports 272 new deaths from COVID-19

272 more people have died of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest daily toll since the pandemic broke out in Iran in February, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Tuesday.

The number of deaths due to the virus has reached 28,816 in the country, Lari noted.

After 4,206 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 504,281 in the country.

There are at least 4,553 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 409,121 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far, more than 4,340,000 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 1,082,272 with 37,809,890 cases and more than 28,385,723 recoveries. (ILKHA)
