France sees a record surge in the daily number of coronavirus cases

16,096 people have tested positive for Covid-19 over the last 24 hours, rising the number of infections in the country to 497,237.

It has marked the biggest daily rise in coronavirus infections since March.

The number of deaths related to the novel coronavirus has 31,511, an increase of 52 deaths in the last 24 hours.

On Thursday, French Prime Minister Jean Castex said that the government could be forced to impose new restrictions if the number of coronavirus cases did not improve in the coming weeks. (ILKHA)
