Iran: The number of deaths from coronavirus rises to 9,996

113 coronavirus patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 9,623, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari announced in her daily press conference on Wednesday.

2,531 new cases of coronavirus were reported over the past 24 hours in Iran, increasing the total number of infections in the country to 212,501, Lari said.

There are at least 2,869 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, 172,096 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far, more than 1,502,525 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 481,405 with 9,421,345 cases and more than 5,092,269 recoveries. (ILKHA)
