Rescue and search works continues after earthquake in eastern Turkey

After the 6.8 magnitude, centered on Sivrice district in Elazığ, 5 people have so far been rescued from the rubble, Turkish officials announced.

The family of three people who were trapped under the rubble in Gezin, a town in Elazığ province, were contacted during the morning hours.

After vigorous efforts of rescue and research teams, father Meriç, 6-month-pregnant mother Pınar and their 12-year-old son Miraç Dişli were rescued alive from the rubble.

At the same time, rescue and search teams forged contact with Cengiz family of four people in the Mustafapaşa Neighborhood in Elazığ downtown.

At 08.00, rescue and search teams rescued mother Gülsüm Çelik trapped in the rubble. Rescue and search efforts continue to rescue father Cengiz Çelik and his two sons.

At 09.50, Hatun Yamiş, 55, was rescued from the rubble of the same building.

 The number of people who have been rescued from the ruble reaches to five since this morning.

 A total of 19 people were dead, including 13 in Elazığ, 5 in Malatya and one in Diyarbakir, and at least 1015 people were injured in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake. (ILKHA)
