On his Twitter account, Altun posted a tweet regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements noting that Turkey could not expect solidarity from NATO allies since it launched the "Operation Peace Spring" against YPG/PKK.

Underlining that the strength and effectiveness of the transatlantic alliance are important elements for the collective security and welfare of the member states, Altun said: "Like in all other international organizations also in NATO, reform and revision are needed in the course of time. Guarding this process is also under the responsibility of NATO members."

Stressing that Turkey has been an important member of NATO since the beginning and plays a vital role within the Alliance, Altun said: "As a staunch member continuing to perform our duties for the alliance, we will seek to improve the effectiveness and relevance of NATO. In every leaders’ summit, we put forward our recommendations and call on our fellow members to understand national security concerns of Turkey. Every responsible member state and their leaders need to bring their suggestions for reform while pursuing common interest and security for all.

We can transform this organization that corresponds to the security challenges of our time. NATO can be more relevant and effective if we work together. To blame the organization for one’s own foreign policy challenges, poor policy choices, increasing strategic irrelevance, and domestic consideration is unfair to NATO. It is unfair to the French people as well." (ILKHA)
