10 killed in Iran bus accident, investigation underway

At least 10 people lost their lives on Saturday when a bus plunged into a ravine in Iran's western Lorestan province, state media reported.

Mohammad Ghadami, provincial head of the Red Crescent Society, confirmed that aid and rescue teams had been dispatched to the accident site. Lorestan is located approximately 350 kilometers (220 miles) southwest of the capital, Tehran.

Iran has a troubling road safety record, with more than 20,000 deaths resulting from traffic accidents recorded between March 2023 and March 2024, according to the Iranian judiciary's Forensic Medicine Organisation.

Authorities are investigating the latest incident as the nation continues to grapple with the urgent need to improve road safety measures. (ILKHA)
