The draft resolution "Supporting the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East" received support from 159 countries, with nine objections and 11 abstentions. The draft resolution "Demanding a ceasefire in Gaza" was supported by 158 countries, with nine objections and 13 abstentions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed deep appreciation to the countries that sponsored, supported, and voted in favor of the two resolutions. The Ministry emphasized that this continued support reflects a commitment to the United Nations Charter, the principles of justice, human rights, and international law.

The Ministry highlighted the importance of UNRWA's role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees and protecting their legitimate rights, which contributes to regional stability. It reiterated that UNRWA is crucial for all humanitarian operations in Gaza and that no other organization can match its capacity and mandate until Palestinian refugees return to their homes as per General Assembly Resolution 194.

Regarding the resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, the Ministry stressed that this reflects the international community's will to end the humanitarian catastrophe and genocide resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression and siege. The Ministry noted the significance of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2735 of 2024, which mandates an immediate ceasefire and calls on the UN Secretary-General to establish accountability mechanisms and support the resolution's implementation.

The Ministry urged all UN member states to ensure the implementation of these resolutions, including facilitating unhindered humanitarian aid access to Gaza, ensuring civilian protection, and holding those responsible for international law violations accountable. (ILKHA)
