During the meeting, the parties focused on efforts to broker a ceasefire and establish a community support committee to oversee post-war reconstruction and governance in Gaza.

Hamas emphasized its commitment to supporting these initiatives and working towards an end to the Israeli military campaign in Gaza. “We remain steadfast in our efforts to bring an end to the aggression and ensure the success of these discussions,” the delegation stated.

The meeting comes amid ongoing violence, with Israel conducting a large-scale military operation in Gaza following a cross-border attack by Palestinian resistance forces on October 7, 2023. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and widespread devastation in the region.

In a related development, the International Criminal Court (ICC) recently issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Efforts to achieve a ceasefire and rebuild the besieged Gaza Strip remain a priority for regional stakeholders and the international community. (ILKHA)
