The joint appeal was made following a meeting of the Astana Format foreign ministers, with discussions centering on de-escalation efforts and supporting the Syrian people.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue between the Syrian government and legitimate opposition groups, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

"We strongly reiterated the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and unity of the Syrian Arab Republic. We called for an immediate end of hostile activities," Lavrov stated, emphasizing that the resolution provides a clear framework for resolving the conflict.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan echoed Lavrov’s sentiments, stressing the need for stability and peace in Syria.

Lavrov condemned the use of terrorist groups, such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, for geopolitical purposes. He criticized operations originating from the Idlib de-escalation area, describing them as harmful to Syria’s sovereignty and regional stability.

"We are absolutely convinced of the inadmissibility of using terrorist groups like Hayat Tahrir al-Sham to achieve geopolitical goals," Lavrov said.

The ministers urged opposition forces to prioritize national interests over violence. Lavrov stated that responsible opposition groups must act in Syria’s best interests and refrain from escalating hostilities.

"If the opposition mentioned in Resolution 2254 is a responsible opposition, they would not allow for this operation to continue," he noted.

Lavrov also emphasized the importance of normalizing relations between Syria and Türkiye. He outlined proposals aimed at securing Syria's borders, preventing terrorist activity, and rebuilding diplomatic ties between the two nations.

"We aim to keep Syria territorially integral and united while ensuring border security. Relations between Syria and Türkiye must be normalized, and we will do everything possible to facilitate this process," Lavrov stated.

The joint efforts of Russia, Iran, and Türkiye underscore their shared commitment to stabilizing Syria through diplomatic measures and fostering regional peace. The call for unity and dialogue reflects their broader strategy to resolve the Syrian crisis. (ILKHA)
