Israeli drone strike hits Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, killing teenager in wheelchair

An Israeli drone strike on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on Thursday claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in a wheelchair and injured at least 12 others, including medical staff, according to the hospital's director, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya.

The attack targeted the entrance of the hospital’s reception and emergency area, where Mahmoud Abu Al-Aish, a wheelchair-bound patient, was being transported to the radiology department. “This was a deliberate strike on patients and staff,” Abu Safiya stated.

He further reported that an earlier drone strike in the vicinity of the hospital killed a man in his thirties and described such incidents as an almost daily occurrence around Kamal Adwan Hospital. Among the injured in Thursday’s attack, a medical staff member is in critical condition and currently undergoing surgery.

This was not the only medical facility targeted. Earlier in the day, Israeli forces struck water tanks at the Indonesian Hospital, which, though non-operational, has been serving as a shelter for displaced families.

In a separate attack, a house located behind Kamal Adwan Hospital was hit, resulting in the deaths of seven Palestinians.

Kamal Adwan Hospital is one of the few remaining partially operational facilities in northern Gaza, a region that has been under severe Israeli military pressure and largely cut off from humanitarian aid for the past two months. Dr. Abu Safiya described the ongoing assaults as an additional strain on the already crippled healthcare system in the besieged area.

The strikes come amidst intensified Israeli military operations in Gaza, raising further concerns about the targeting of medical infrastructure and civilians in the conflict zone. (ILKHA)
