The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 61 miles west-southwest of Ferndale in Humboldt County.

Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for coastal areas of California and Oregon. Residents in these regions are advised to immediately evacuate to higher ground, as significant inundation is possible.

The tsunami warning covers areas from Davenport, California, to the Douglas/Lane line in Oregon. Authorities emphasize that the threat may persist for several hours, as multiple waves can occur.
