5.6-magnitude earthquake hits Iran’s Khuzestan province

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Iran’s southeastern Khuzestan province on Thursday morning, according to the National Seismography Center.

The quake occurred at 7:32 am local time at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located near Haftgel, close to Masjed Soleyman. Approximately 20 minutes later, a second tremor measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was recorded 8 kilometers northwest of Masjed Soleyman.

Residents in multiple cities, including Ahvaz, Masjed Soleyman, Bavi, Hamidiyeh, and Shushtar, reported feeling the tremors.

No reports of damage or casualties have been received so far, and rescue and emergency teams are closely monitoring the situation, prepared to respond if necessary.

This marks the second earthquake in the region within a week, following a 3.6-magnitude tremor that struck Ahvaz, the provincial capital, last Friday. (ILKHA)
