Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, deputy commander of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, confirmed the border closure. He stated that security forces are on high alert and awaiting further directives from Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to ensure the country’s safety.
General Muhammed Abdulwahab es-Suaydi, commander of Iraq’s Border Forces, noted that efforts to fortify the Iraq-Syria border have been intensified, with additional security measures being implemented.
