Türkiye’s services production index unchanged year-on-year in September

The Turkish Statistical Institute reported that the services production index, based on 2021 as the base year, showed no change in September 2024 compared to the same period last year.

This stability reflects a mix of performance across various sectors within the service industry.

Over the year, transportation and storage services experienced a decline of 3.2%, signaling challenges in logistics and mobility. In contrast, accommodation and food services grew by 0.9%, and information and communication services saw a modest increase of 1.2%. Real estate services stood out with a significant surge of 18.8%, highlighting robust activity in the property market. Meanwhile, professional, scientific, and technical services recorded a 1.0% rise, but administrative and support services fell slightly by 0.7%.

On a monthly basis, the services production index inched up by 0.3% compared to August 2024, driven by a 1.0% increase in transportation and storage services and a 0.2% rise in accommodation and food services. Professional, scientific, and technical services also posted strong growth of 2.0%. However, some sectors faced setbacks, with information and communication services declining by 2.3%, real estate services falling by 2.0%, and administrative and support services slipping by 0.3%.

These figures highlight the diverse dynamics within Türkiye’s service industry. While certain sectors demonstrate resilience and growth, others face persistent challenges, reflecting the complexity of the broader economic environment. (ILKHA)
