The vessel was located off the coast of Sedef Island in the Sea of Marmara when the incident occurred. Tragically, two individuals, identified as Hüseyin Aydemir and Gökhan Kan, lost their lives in the blaze.
The Turkish Coastal Safety Authority dispatched emergency response teams to the scene shortly after the fire was reported. The KEGM-4 fast evacuation boat, along with the KURTARMA-7 and ŞARK tugboats, worked together to control and extinguish the flames aboard the 104-meter-long vessel, which was carrying 17 crew members and 8 shipyard workers.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure confirmed the loss of two lives within the ship’s engine room. The Ministry’s statement further clarified that, after containing the fire, arrangements were made to tow FG SEVIL to the Kartal Anchorage Area by the ŞARK tug. A formal investigation into the incident has been initiated by the prosecutor's office to determine the cause of the fire. (ILKHA)
