His detention is reportedly part of an ongoing terrorism investigation.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the arrest followed evidence suggesting Özer had multiple phone conversations with an individual linked to the PKK, a group designated as a terrorist organization, who is currently wanted on an international Red Notice. As part of the investigation, authorities have conducted searches at Özer’s home and at the Esenyurt Municipality building.
The CHP has yet to comment on the detention of Mayor Özer, who was elected in the March 31 local elections, as legal proceedings continue. (ILKHA)
