According to Alhurra, a US Arabic-language news outlet, Robert Moret, the fourth director of the National Intelligence Agency, confirmed that US forces deployed stealth “B-2” bombers in an attempt to target the leadership of the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen. Moret highlighted that these bombers were specifically chosen for their ability to strike fortified positions.
The latest operation marked a shift from previous US military efforts, which had relied heavily on drone strikes. Moret acknowledged that the earlier drone campaign, using MQ-9 drones, had suffered significant setbacks, with around 11 drones being downed by Yemeni forces.
This revelation marks the first time the US has disclosed the use of “B-2” bombers in Yemen, with approximately 15 strikes reportedly targeting locations in Sana’a and Sa’ada, the stronghold of Ansar Allah leader Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi. Despite the large-scale assault, no casualties have been officially reported, and Al-Houthi made a public appearance shortly after the raids.
The US’s military campaign in Yemen, which has intensified since early 2024, aims to curb Yemeni operations linked to the broader regional conflict involving the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. The failure of this latest plan adds further pressure on Washington as it seeks to address the growing challenges in the region. (ILKHA)
